Septic

A Septic Systems failure starts long before any symptoms are experienced. Akamai Pumping Service is committed to diagnosing and troubleshooting septic issues with both preventative and immediate solutions.

How it Works

A basic septic system will consist of a tank split into two chambers that lead either to a leach field or leach pit to distribute the outflow of gray water into the soil.

The first chamber will catch the excessive solids as the more fine particles will seep into the second chamber, essentially preventing most of what would clog your leach field from entering the outlet pipe.
The tank should always be filled to the top, allowing gray water to flow through while the solids remain via the sanitary tee (which allows that separation). However; if the septic is not pumped every 3 - 5 years or so, problems will occur and the leach field will no longer be efficient enough to disperse gray water leading to plumbing overflow and backups.

Frequently asked questions

  • How often should my septic tank be pumped?

Depending on the household occupancy and frequency of usage, we suggest that your tank is pumped every 3-5 years. Preventative measures will make sure that your leach field doesn't fail and will save you ten's of thousand's of dollars in the long run.

  • How big is my septic tank?

Septic Tanks are usually 1000-1250 gallons with the exception of a few at 1500 gallon tanks.

  • Where is my septic tank?

Start by looking for any kind of exposed concrete, plastic or fiberglass near the lowest area of your property. These systems are gravity-flow, meaning sewer lines will be at a downward angle to allow passage.

A septic system has two access ports between 18-24 inches that will be a few feet apart. We cannot efficiently clean your tank  without both being exposed.

  • What if I can't find my septic tank?

After installation, contractors/homeowners will sometimes landscape over the exsisting system. For that and other reasons, we do offer camera location services to find and expose your systems access ports.

  • Why pump my tank if I've never had any problems>

You won't experience any symptoms of system failure/severe-damage until it's too late. Regular maintenance is what it takes to save hundreds/thousands of dollars in the long run.

  • My system is backing up! What should I do?

Your system will only continuously back-up if the plumbing is still being used. Immediately stop using water and contact us to see if our services are right for your situation.
